TCS 10 for Tech
Technology is a tool. Childhood is a season.
Helping TCS families cultivate healthy technology habits through ten simple, intentional commitments.
Technology with Intention
At The Christ School, we are committed to always asking, "What is best for the child?"
Technology is an incredible gift that has transformed the way we learn, communicate, and connect. It also presents new questions for families as they seek to raise children with wisdom, balance, and purpose.
Through conversations, surveys, and everyday interactions, many TCS parents have shared a desire for practical guidance in setting healthy tech boundaries and a community of families moving in the same direction.
TCS Ten for Tech is our response.
What is TCS Ten for Tech?
TCS Ten for Tech is a community-wide initiative built around ten practical habits that help families cultivate healthier relationships with technology.
Each commitment is simple, actionable, and designed to encourage intentional choices that support childhood, strengthen family relationships, and promote healthy digital habits, one step at a time.
01
Wait Until 8th
Delay smartphones and social media until at least eighth grade whenever possible. Giving children more time to mature helps them build confidence and resilience before navigating the pressures of the digital world.
02
Parents Lead
Children learn by watching us. Modeling healthy technology habits—like putting away phones during meals, conversations, or family time—helps shape habits and reinforces the importance of being fully present.
03
Phones Away During the School Day
Keeping phones tucked away during the school day helps students stay focused, build stronger relationships, and fully engage in learning.
04
Face-to-Face Conversations
Encourage meaningful conversations in person. Regular face-to-face interactions help children develop communication skills, empathy, and confidence.
05
No-Phone Zones
Designate a few phone-free spaces, such as the dinner table or bedrooms, where your family can connect without digital distractions.
06
Keep Screens Visible
Use devices in shared family spaces whenever possible. Visible screens encourage accountability and create natural opportunities for guidance and conversation.
07
Homes for Phones
Create a central charging station outside of bedrooms so devices have a place to rest—and everyone can enjoy healthier evenings and better sleep.
08
Own Your Settings
Customize your notifications, privacy settings, and screen time controls so your technology supports your family instead of competing for your attention.
09
Start and End Without Screens
Create simple routines that begin and end the day without screens. Even small changes can bring more calm, connection, and intentionality to family life.
10
One Hour Unplugged
Set aside one screen-free hour each day to enjoy conversation, outdoor play, reading, hobbies, or simply being together.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
Many TCS families are choosing to take small, intentional steps together.
Our commitment is about:
- Supporting one another as parents
- Creating shared expectations for our children
- Building a healthier school culture together
This is not about perfection—it’s about intention.
