Job Description

Position: Substitute Teacher
Responsible to: Division Directors

A TCS Teacher/Staff Exhibits:

  • A deep faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and acceptance of the authority of Scriptures as a guide for faith and living
    • Actively pursues spiritual growth through personal devotions, Bible study, church involvement, etc.
  • Understand and actively support The Christ School's mission, vision, and defining characteristics
  • Proficiency in GoogleSuite (docs, sheets, gmail, calendar)
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively traverse possibly uneven ground
  • Must be able to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs and transport about 10-15 pounds

Job Summary:

The Substitute Teacher provides instruction and classroom supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment for students.

General Responsibilities:

  • Follow the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Create a positive and structured classroom environment that fosters student engagement and learning.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management and enforce school rules to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Take attendance and manage student behavior effectively, addressing any issues in accordance with school policies.
  • Provide assistance to students in understanding assignments and offer support as needed.
  • Communicate with school administration regarding any concerns, incidents, or deviations from lesson plans.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and recess as needed.
  • Leave a detailed report for the regular teacher outlining the day’s progress, student behavior, and any unfinished tasks.
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Articulable evidence of faith and a relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Understanding and active support of The Christ School mission, vision, and defining characteristics
  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to adapt to different grade levels and teaching styles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to effectively traverse possibly uneven ground to manage students
  • Must be able to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs and transport about 10-15 pounds
