Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at The Christ School provides a developmentally appropriate bridge between preschool and Kindergarten. Designed for young learners who would benefit from an extra year of growth, TK introduces core Kindergarten concepts through joyful, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence. With a focus on early literacy, math, science, and Bible, lessons are woven into play-based learning that honors how children grow best—through movement, exploration, and imagination.

Equally important is the development of social-emotional and spiritual foundations. Students learn classroom routines, build friendships, and practice independence in a supportive, Christ-centered environment. Caring faculty guide students through each day with intentional structure and meaningful moments that help them thrive academically, relationally, and spiritually—laying the groundwork for a lifelong love of learning.

Building Classroom Communities

Strong academics begin with strong relationships. At TCS, our classrooms are built on trust, respect, and collaboration—places where students feel known, safe, and encouraged. Through class meetings, team-building activities, and Biblical character development, teachers intentionally foster a sense of belonging that allows students to take risks, support one another, and grow together.

Delivering Systematic Reading Instruction

We use the Orton-Gillingham approach to provide structured, multisensory reading instruction. This research-based method helps students build a deep understanding of how language works, forming a solid foundation for decoding, spelling, and confident reading. Instruction is both systematic and joyful, helping students develop strong literacy skills and a genuine love of reading.

Incorporating Movement

Movement is a vital part of healthy development—and at TCS, it’s built into each day. Students enjoy 20 minutes of daily recess and physical education twice per week, along with frequent opportunities for active learning in the classroom. Physical activity supports emotional regulation, improves focus, and encourages deeper engagement in both academics and social interactions.

Developing the Whole Child through Experiential Learning

Our commitment to whole child education is reflected in both our special area offerings and the meaningful experiences provided throughout the school year. Elementary students participate in Theatre, Music, Library, Genesis Lab, and STEAM, gaining exposure to a wide range of disciplines that foster creativity, curiosity, and real-world application.

Beyond the classroom, students take part in field trips, service projects, and downtown community exploration—bringing learning to life and connecting them with the world around them. These experiences are intentionally paired with character development, guiding students to grow not only in knowledge, but in faith, confidence, and compassion.
